Earlier this month we were off again back to the Northern Ruahine Ranges. There were two more smaller buildings that were looking mighty ‘naked’ some years after the first paintings were created on some of the other buildings up there at Rangi Hut base.
I had given myself four days to get this task done. Well, probably just as well, because this time we had some solid rain and on some of the walls there was simply too much dampness to get the layers on I wanted too. So the biggest challenge for these artworks was which wall to do as the weather allowed and also move quickly when I was able to. Over all we had two good days, thank goodness. So job done. PHEW!
We were helicoptered up with paints and equipment, but the weather had deteriorated to the point of no return - well not by helicopter anyways. So wet weather gear on and downward we went - on foot. Got some great shots on the way down and it was good to get some well needed physical exercise in… It turned out I must have needed it because I couldn’t move well for days afterwards. I have since purchased some proper hiking boots.
